Business Insurance is often called “Key Person Insurance”

Key Person insurance is an insurance policy to cover the lost contribution of a partner or key
employee, in the event of their death or disability. The loss could cripple or close the company.

Two partners come together and try to understand what they would do if one should become
disabled or should die. Depending on their need for each other to run the business, and one
is taken out of the picture, it could cause serious damage to the business.

A board of directors of a medium size company may have a key employee devoted to Research
and Development on a product line that requires continuous efforts to keep up with the latest
technology or suffer severe losses in profit or market share. A life and / or disability insurance
plan for the two partners is an inexpensive option to sustain the business, develop a recovery
plan, and purchase resources to over come the losses in sales, or recruit a top executive to replace
the partner.

Even in a larger group, a provision could be added to cover the “first to die”. If and when one is
disabled or dies then the policy would provide benefits to the company to replace that employee
and any lost revenue that would have been earned by this employee. With this option the company
need not insure every individual in the group.

The reasons for developing a Key Person Strategy are endless. For more information contact an Independent Insurance Agent licensed and certified in Health and Life Insurance.

Massachusetts health insurance

The whole country knows about the national heath care mandate with so many comparing it to Massachusetts health insurance. Some real benefits have been provided in Massachusetts which most people enjoy. What is unpopular to some is the fact the there are penalties assessed for not having health insurance and requiring that MA residents have health insurance. The penalties can range from $228 to $1,212 per year depending on income.

These benefits must meet MA Minimal Creditable Coverage (MCC). Self employed small business people may obtain coverage on the first day of any month as long as they can show proof of being in business, such as a recent tax form.

They may also change insurance companies in any 30 day interval. People who are not self employed are limited by law and can only apply for health insurance from July 1st through August 15TH for start dates of August 1st or September 1st. This is call the Open Enrollment Period. The law permits enrollment outside of an open enrollment period under certain circumstances, such as, the loss of employer sponsored coverage or government-sponsored coverage.
